Can Ginkgo Biloba help with antidepressants induced sexual dysfunction?

MECHANISM OF ACTION:

  • Prostaglandin synthesis and vasodilation ==>
  • resulting in increase peripheral blood flow and to facilitate the relaxation of smooth muscle tissue.

Ginkgo biloba extract has shown to improve the cognitive function in patients with vascular dementia. Note that Ginkgo biloba is widely used in China for this purpose due to its antioxidative and protective effects on neuronal cells.

WHAT DOSE IS FOUND EFFECTIVE?

According to an open-label trial published in 1998 (J Sex Marital Ther. 1998 Apr-Jun;24(2):139-43):

  • dose ranged from 60 mg once daily to 120 mg twice daily (average = 209mg/d)
