Geriatric Psychiatry Update: ChEIsĀ for Psychotic Symptoms

According to this recent meta-analysis published in JAMA Neurology on June 26, 2023: Cholinesterase Inhibitors treatment improves psychotic symptoms in patients with Alzheimer’s disease & Parkinson’s disease with small effect sizes (for hallucinations and delusions).

It is well known that psychotic symptoms in neurodegenerative disorders greatly increase the burden of disease for both patients and their caregivers. For this reason, it is clinically relevant for mental health professionals to have the knowledge on how to prescribe cholinesterase inhibitor.
