Understanding Weight Gain Risks with Antidepressants: Key Findings from Recent Research

Antidepressants are a cornerstone in the treatment of major depressive disorder and other mood-related conditions. However, a well-known side effect of these medications is weight gain, which can pose significant health risks and affect patient adherence. A recent article published in the Annals of Internal Medicine sheds new light on this issue, providing valuable insights for both clinicians and patients.

The study, titled “Antidepressant Use and Weight Gain: A Comprehensive Analysis,” examined the weight gain associated with eight commonly prescribed antidepressants: Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, Sertraline, Citalopram, Escitalopram, Venlafaxine, Duloxetine and Bupropion.
