Q: What Features Differentiates Bipolar Depression from MDD?

Bipolar depression is characterized by significantly higher rates of:

  1. Psychomotor retardation
  2. Difficulty thinking
  3. Early morning awakening, morning worsening
  4. Psychotic features

NOTE:- Psychomotor retardation is the most robust feature distinguishing Bipolar depression from MDD. Also noted is more relevance of psychomotor retardation to Bipolar 1 vs Bipolar 2 & MDD.
